Made by a human
Look at it like this: Things can be created by nature, human-made, or AI generated.
Keep that which nature created out of what I write here. It is all about human-made versus AI generated.
Photographs, screen dumps and scans, should not be thought of as content, but as special formats. The content is the subject they have.
Take for example a picture of the Moon. It is created by nature, so it doesnt count. Human-made content can contain that kind of picture.
A screen dump of an AI generated planet on the other hand, cannot be part of human-made content.
The content on Spredehagl is human-made.
Human-made
- The creative process is controlled by humans.
- AI can be used as a supporting tool.
- All AI information have been double checked.
- There are no copy-paste from AI to content.
- All information has been through human brain and human hand before becoming content.
There is an exception to this.
- Articles about AI can contain AI generated content. It must be clear from the context which parts of the content are AI generated.
Why?
Here are some reasons why human-made content is important.
Making content yourself will improve you. You improve your skills, or at least maintain them. We humans will collectively loose skills if we dont use them.
Those that constantly use AI in their work, will without exception tell you that AI doesnt "think" like people. When AI is creative, it is in a way that is very different than when people are creative. Human-made content is different from AI generated content.
Some people have a knack for distinguishing between human-made content and AI generated content. Others cant distinguish. Because we are still learning what AI is, our AI radars are not fully developed yet. But the difference is there even if we cant spot it. If we stop making human-made content, we are going to loose something we dont fully understand yet, and we will loose the chance to develop a better understanding of what it is.
Even AI needs human-made content. When an AI is trained on AI generated content, its output quickly becomes rubbish.
AI usage
As you can see, it is important for me to control the creative process to claim I created the outcome of it. I use AI for research and for improving translations.
But why not use AI to make illustrations for example? I could get illustrations that looked more luscious, and wouldnt take long to generate. Instead I insist on making my own illustrations, that are a little clunky and clearly human-made.
One reason is that you enter a slippery slope if you mix human-made and AI generated content. It becomes unclear what is what, and what your readers can expect.
Another reason is that I think there are more important qualities than being luscious. My view is that human-made content has inherent qualities that AI generated content lack. They are they even when I mess around or make stupid errors.
And then I just like to make illustrations.
