Seasoning of cast iron
Cast iron cookware has a very effective non-stick coating if you make sure to build it up and maintain it.
It is possible to use other oils, but coconut oil works very well for this. If you use another type of oil, make sure to heat it up above its smoke point. The coating is made when the oil breaks down.
This non-stick coating does not pose health issues like those connected with flouropolymer coatings, such as Teflon.
